A new study shows that is harder for polar bears to find food and live due to climate change. They are one of the most affected animals in the Arctic area. As we know, the ice is melting faster because of global warming. Polar bears are hunting on the ice, which means that without it, they are in danger. Moreover, having nothing to eat makes them for dangerous for researchers who come in the area.
Polar bears are not swimming to get their food. They make some breathing holes in the ice to ambush seals or fish. It is very important for them to eat seals because they provide the nutrients polar bears need. If the ice will continue to melt, they are not going to able to hunt and this will put their life in danger. The ice is the place where they are taking from most of their food. It is hard to find other sources in a place where few animals are able to live.
Researchers are expecting less polar bears in the future due to global warming. The most important periods for hunting are spring and fall. Those are the moments when there is good ice habitat for the polar bears. Moreover, during those periods the animals are also trying to find mates. The biggest problem was during summer when the sunlight is making the ice melt faster. During fall months, the ice sheets used to get bigger due to temperatures.
Things change and now temperatures are hotter than ever before. August was the hottest month ever recorded by NASA, on our planet. It is possible that even the fall or winter months to be warmer than before. The ice will continue to melt and polar bears will have to find ways to survive.
It seems that global warming is more dangerous for animals than for humans, at least for the moment. We are the only ones who can make a change. We can’t talk anymore about prevention because it is already too late. We need to find ways to protect our planet and save it while we still can. The ice is melting, the sea level is rising and it 100 years we could see villages or cities underwater because of it.
